  • Re: Connecting weight scales to Odoo
    Yes, our system doesn't require middle things. Just direct websocket connection between browser and weighing scale.

    We also have a talk about this in Jornadas Odoo, although in Spanish (I know Daniel won't have problem with that):

    Hello,

    It's not a Black Box solution. We have changed it to support Epelsa Scales. The code is open, you can see the addons hw_*. If you login to the raspberry pi (it's a default raspbian) you can see that is only a Odoo that launch the hw_* addons. And can be used in a Community Versión, but only in POS. You can use it in Manufacturing.

    Well also a solution to do it via Websockets and w/o pywebdriver even.
    So you don't necessarily need a prepared Raspi but just an ordinary
    Linux machine. We did something similar back in the days with a home
    made weighing scale (built from some cheap China hardaware) even. Was
    only for carrier clearance, but worked pretty well on several parallel
    instances. So definitely also worth to look at

    Hello Daniel,

    We have made a small pilot to connect a mettler toledo precision scale to odoo via direct ethernet connection to a debian machine/raspberry pi. https://github.com/auneor/scale_pilot It's not very well documented, but it launch a daemon listening on port 5000

    On Odoo side, there is a module used to do some automatic quality measures, but unfortunately, I can't share it for the moment. But it does some calls like:

      async get_weight_before() {
        let after = false;
        fetch("http://127.0.0.1:5000/get_weight")
          .then((response) => {
            if (response.ok) {
              return response.json();
            } else {
              throw new Error("Network response was not ok.");
            }
          })
          .then((data) => {
            this.props.scaleCell(this.props.id, data.weight.toString(), after);
          })
          .catch((error) => {
            console.log("Error fetching weight:", error);
            this.props.scaleCell(this.props.id, false, after, true);
          });
      }

    Hi Daniel,

    i don't exactly know (at least without further crawling our internal knowledge base) where we ended up, but if i remember correctly we Mettler Toledo Scales have a pretty standard and well known "interface" that should well integrate with pywebdriver.

    We did that for very same reasons like you but the customer (again if i remember correctly) decided to go with EE (as this was 'initially' cheaper to be implemented for him)

    In the meantime Carmen / CoopItEasy did the following. Maybe you directly ask Carmen for help -> https://github.com/pywebdriver/pywebdriver/releases/tag/v3.0.14

    The mettler Toledo can be connected, is in the core o Odoo. You only has to use a iotbox. Some function of iotbox are enterprise, but connect a scale to POS is open source. You can download the raspberry pi image in the Odoo website: https://nightly.odoo.com/master/iotbox/

    Hi Daniel,

    yes, we've looked into that and pywebdriver should be helpful on that matter. But afaik the Mettler-Toledo should also work with the EE iotbox if you have an EE project at hand.

    Good morning Jair, a pleasure to greet you. Excuse me, they told me that I must write in English. Yes I am resuming Odoo. I'm a programmer since Open Erp but I spent some time with C#. I'm reading so I can contribute. What I see is that they ask questions in several versions and I am using 17 and 18.

    Hello,

    is there any alternative to Enterprise's mrp_workorder (MRP II) Shop Floor application? I couldn't find any. There is a set of shopfloor modules in WMS repo but these seem to server warehouse scenarios, not manufacturing. Any advice is greatly welcome.

    Hi Stéphane,
    thanks very much for the clarification.
    I've managed to install the OCA module version as we use a private distributor of pip packages: this is used by forcing the 14.0.1.0.1 version.
    Warmest regards,

    Hi Sergio,

    Thanks for reporting this.

    In this case, what happened is that odoo12-addon-stock_move_backdating is owned by OCA, but another company published odoo14-addon-stock_move_backdating before it was migrated in OCA.
    When later merged in OCA, the publishing to PyPI failed because OCA did not own the package.
    We were alerted by the monitoring and attempted to contact that company to resolve the issue, without success so far.

    From PyPI perspective, there is nothing wrong with that because odoo12-addon-stock_move_backdating and odoo14-addon-stock_move_backdating are two different packages.
    Since Odoo 15, the Odoo version is not part of the package name, so this kind of confusion cannot happen anymore.

    It is nevertheless important to keep in mind that anyone can publish new packages to PyPI, including Odoo addons, and when installing from PyPI (as from anywhere on the internet) one must be careful to assert the trust one places in the package owners.

    We are currently aware of 2 situations where an addon is merged in OCA and not owned by OCA on PyPI: odoo14-addon-stock_move_backdating and odoo14-addon-pos_sale_order_load.

    Additionally, since Nov 2024, to avoid merging in OCA when the name is not available on PyPI, the bot checks that the name is available before accepting the merge.

    In OCA CI, there is a mechanism in place to test only with OCA addons.

    Best regards,

    -Stéphane

    Hi all,
    I am writing this mail even if I've already written it in OCA Discord, because I think this is a security issue, I apologize whether it's not.

    I found installed in an instance a pip from pypi.org of an OCA module upgraded there from a company outside OCA: https://pypi.org/project/odoo14-addon-stock-move-backdating/14.0.1.2.0/

    They pushed the module changed and with a different logo (almost this change made me notice it) and a link to their website. It's a bad thing that someone can put a pip there with a random code.

    I'll stop taking this pip from pypi.org or I'll take the OCA version, but what about other instances installed in this way? Or is it a deprecated way of deployment?

    In tests done on github is used the "non-OCA" version too:

    Requirement already satisfied: odoo14-addon-stock-move-backdating in /opt/odoo-venv/src/odoo14-addon-stock-move-backdating/setup/stock_move_backdating (from -r test-requirements.txt (line 6)) (14.0.1.0.2.dev2)

    while the current OCA version is  "version": "14.0.1.0.1",

    -Stéphane

    Hi,

    I suppose the https://pypi.org/user/ssi-bot/ user own the pypi project before OCA bot try to create it so it's certainly a best practice to first get OCA package from the OCA wheelhouse https://wheelhouse.odoo-community.org/

    Hi all,
    I am writing this mail even if I've already written it in OCA Discord, because I think this is a security issue, I apologize whether it's not.
